Dragon boating is a team-paddling sport on water. The normal crew is 22, i.e. 20 paddlers in pairs facing the bow of the boat, 1 helm steering and 1 drummer at the bow facing the paddlers. Paddlers follow the beat of the drum.
Yes. Evidence has shown that exercise after breast cancer is not only safe but beneficial. The specific movement of paddling a dragon boat can play an important part in preventing and/or improving lymphoedema, a chronic swelling of tissues that can occur due to breast surgery and/or radiation. Please consult your doctor before resuming exercise after surgery and/or treatment.

How often do you train?
Training takes place on Tuesday evenings and every Saturday morning
Where do you train?
Training takes place on the river Nore, meet up point at KACC grounds opposite the canal car park, Kilkenny
What do I wear?
Wear something comfortable, breathable and quick drying. Life jackets will be provided.
I can't swim, can I join?
Yes. You don’t need to be able to swim, life jackets will be provided.
Do I need experience?
No. Everything will be explained to you before getting on a Dragon Boat
Who can join?
Membership is open to both men and women over 18. Please note, Nore Dragon Paddlers is a Breast Cancer Survivor Group only
What is KACC?
Kilkenny Aqua Canoe Club - Nore Dragon Paddlers is a club within a club, KACC has played a huge part in getting us on the river from giving us the use of their facilities to mentoring, their support has been invaluable.
